Valve publishes no sales figures. What Steam does publish is every review, with the date it was written, and reviews are the best public trace of purchases. The usual rule of thumb multiplies a game's reviews by about 30. That is one number for every game, and it is off by a lot for most of them.
Coilr weights each month of Shadow Warrior 3: Definitive Edition's reviews by when it was written. A review from 2014 stands for about 75 copies and one from 2022 for about 55, since Steam began asking players to review what they play. Then it adjusts for the game itself: a co-op game is bought by groups of friends of whom one writes the review, so each review stands for more copies; fans of story games review far more of what they play, so fewer; and a big hit reaches players who never review anything at all.
Those weights were not picked by hand. They were fitted to 219 sales milestones that 170 developers announced on Steam, each compared with the reviews the game had on the day it was posted, and held under the worldwide totals publishers gave for their bigger games, which Steam's share can never exceed.
Where a developer has published a Steam figure, the estimate does not argue with it: the curve is pinned to their latest number, and the reviews since only say how much has sold after it. Tested on games that published two figures, pinning to the first brings the estimate of the second within about 16%.
Each game was checked by a model fitted without it, so these are the misses a reader of this page should expect, not the flattering in-sample ones. Free-to-play games have no estimate: their owners are anyone who pressed Play once, which reviews cannot measure. Reviews counted are Steam's own, in every language, read Oct 18, 2026.
About 300k copies of Shadow Warrior 3: Definitive Edition have been sold on Steam, by Coilr's estimate from its 5,712 Steam reviews. The real figure is likely between 170k and 610k.
Roughly 300k. Owners and copies sold are close but not the same: owners also include keys given away in bundles and promotions, and a copy bought as a gift counts once either way. Valve publishes neither number, so both are estimates.
Checked against 170 games whose developers announced their Steam sales, with each game left out of the model it was checked with, the median estimate was 30% off the announced figure and 74% landed within half of it either way. The likely range on this page is drawn from that check.
